The Pennsylvania State UniversityUniversity Park, Pennsylvania

8/1994 - 5/1999

Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, May 1999

·        Coursework included co-operative education rotations with Lockheed Martin and ViroPharma, Inc.

Experience

The Vanguard Group of Investment Companies – Malvern, Pennsylvania

Information Systems Engineer – Security Services Development

7/2000– present

·        Designed, developed, and maintained the security, authentication, authorization, and encryption software used by over 2.5 million registered web clients on Vanguard’s external shareholder web site.
(Java, C, C++, HTML, XML, iPlanet Web Server, WebSphere, Servlets, JDBC, TCP/IP, HTTP, SSL, LDAP)

·        Initiated, led, and served as the primary developer on a project to refactor components of Vanguard’s net-centric security software, reducing rework and increasing code reuse.  The redesigned software was functionally equivalent to the original, but required less effort to maintain and enhance.
(Java development on Windows and Solaris platforms, JDBC, UML)

·        Designed and developed a credential chaining module, which provided access to Vanguard’s enterprise credentials from either Sybase or DB2 data stores.  This module allowed shareholder authentication data to be migrated using a phased approach over several weeks, avoiding the risk of migrating over 40 million records at once.
(Java, SQL, IBM WebSphere, Sybase, DB2)

·        Integrated Netegrity SiteMinder security software with Vanguard’s existing security infrastructure.
(Java, Solaris, iPlanet Web Server, IBM WebSphere, Netegrity SiteMinder)

·        Implemented a detailed statistical reporting mechanism for real-time analysis of web site performance.
(C, iPlanet Web Server, NSAPI)

·        Provided 24x7 production support for mission-critical website security systems, serving as a primary on-call point of contact for website troubleshooting and disaster recovery.

Information Systems Engineer – Technical Services Testing

6/1999 – 7/2000

·        Conducted unit, integration, and system tests of web site infrastructure and middleware services.
(Solaris Administration, Korn Shell, Perl, awk, sed, RadView WebLoad)

·        Developed installation and configuration scripts for unattended elevation of software components.
(Solaris System V Packaging, Korn Shell, Perl, awk, sed)

   ViroPharma Incorporated – Exton, Pennsylvania

   Systems Developer (Student Co-Op Rotation)

5/1998 – 8/1998

·        Developed applications to facilitate data transfer within and between departments.
(Perl, MS Access, VBA, Oracle, Windows Administration)

Lockheed Martin Management & Data Systems – Valley Forge, Pennsylvania

Systems Test Agent (Student Co-Op Rotation)

1/1998 – 5/1998

·        Conducted functional and performance tests of the Advanced Tomahawk Weapons Control System.
(HP-UX, Unix Shell)

·        Identified software anomalies and performance issues to improve system reliability and efficiency.

·        Received Department of Defense Secret and SCI clearances, since expired.

ViroPharma Incorporated – Great Valley, Pennsylvania

   Network & Database Administrator

5/1997 – 8/1997

·        Improved chemical compound database by interfacing existing front-end with Oracle RDBMS.
(Oracle, ISIS/Base)

·        Administered the company’s network of 85 Windows and MacOS workstations.

Penn State Applied Research Laboratory – State College, Pennsylvania

   Software Developer

9/1996 – 1/1997
